RI acknowledges Slovanian music school`s role in teaching Anglung

London (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government has presented certificates of appreciation to a music school and its head in Novo nesto, Slovenia, for having taught and promoted the playing of two traditional Indonesian musical instruments -- the angklung of West Java and the kolintang of North Sulawesi - for more than 25 years.

The certificates were handed to the Marjana Korine mucic school and its director, Zdravko Hribar, on behalf of the Indonesian government by Indonesian Ambassador to Slovenia Triyono Wibowo on Monday.

Taking place at Novo nesto`s Janes Trdina Cultural Center, the event was also attended by the town`s mayor, Alojz Muhic, and hundreds of Novo nesto residents.

An official at the Indonesian Embassy in Vienna, Austria, Darianto Harsono, said the event was part of a cultural program organized by Novo nesto, a town located about 70 km from the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana.

The school had been teaching the playing of the two Indonesian musical instruments and ethnic Indonesian melodies for more than 25 years to students in Slovenia.

Ambassador Triyono Wibowo in his address on the occasion thanked and expressed high appreciation to Hribar and his school for having famliarized the Slovanian public with parts of Indonesian culture.

The Marjana Kozine music school had a well-preserved angklung set that was contributed in 1981 by Colonel General Stane Potocar-Lazar, a military officer in the army of the former Yugoslavia, who loved Indonesia. The school`s kolintang set was a gift from the Indonesian embassy in 2002.

The presentation of the certificates was followed by a kolintang concert performed by Marjana Korine music school students.(*)
